General Information about SCVC

The Southern California Vipassana Center is one of over 120 international centers and numerous non-center sites where the technique of Vipassana meditation is taught and practiced.

The Center is located just north of Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, CA. It is a 2-1/2 hr. drive from the Los Angeles and San Diego metropolitan areas. It is possible to reach the Center using public transportation with careful planning in advance, but this requires multiple buses that run on a limited schedule and a full day of travel. The rideshare board is the recommended option. 

The 154 acre property is desert landscape with ten new custom-designed buildings that have modern amenities including air conditioning. The center has been built with the experience of previous meditation centers to best accommodate students and servers. Beautiful vistas of desertscape and the winter snowcapped Mt. San Gorgonio can be enjoyed from the property.

The Center opened for courses in May of 2011, accommodating 60 students at a time. Capacity for 10 additional students was added in 2013. As soon as funds become available, the third phase of the Center's development plan will begin, expanding campus capacity to a total of 140 students.
